The Myth of Sexual Incontinence

Recently Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto claimed that 'comfort women' were necessary for Japanese soldiers to 'relax'.

Please bear this in mind before continuing to read; So called 'comfort women' were women and young girls who were coerced, lured or kidnapped and imprisoned in brothels, where they were forced to sexually service soldiers. They were raped 20-25 times a day, and both beatings and torture were reported as common.

Also - nearly 3 quarters of the 'comfort women' died; many survivors were left infertile and some victims from East Timor reported that they were raped when they had not even begun menstruating.

Yet this - rape, forced prostitution, paedophilia, trafficking, reproductive trauma and murder - all deemed necessary by this politician who had even acknowledged that the 'comfort women' had been acting "against their will".

To state this even more clearly; he is saying that the gang rape of little girls was 'necessary' because soldiers need to 'rest'.

No doubt this is just another iteration of the bizarre myth of sexual incontinence; that is, that men have such powerful, all consuming sex drives that they simply cannot control themselves. That those Japanese soldiers could not simply have had a crafty wank rather than raping children.

This is bollocks.

The idea that males are incapable of controlling their sexual urges is both inaccurate and deeply insulting to both men and women.

Sexual desire is not a political animal; the most misogynistic man may crave a female boot on his neck; the most feminist women may desire to be dominated. But every person, regardless of gender is capable of controlling their actions

Much nonsense is talked, when a woman or child is raped, about the person's makeup, clothing and actions. A judge gave two men who raped an 11 year old just 40 months in prison because the little girl 'looked older' and 'was willing'. So what? We generally accept 11 year olds can't consent to sex because they aren't capable; the assumption seemed to be that this child had seduced these two men into raping and filming her.

Most anti-rape literature -  is aimed at women, telling females to modify their behaviour so as not to arouse the uncontrollable lusts of men.

As Soraya Chemaly Says;

"After reviewing the full spectrum of "how to be safe" literature I came to the conclusion that if I was stupid enough to go out at all I should wear a tent, dark sunglasses, shave my head balddrink only water (out of a covered sippy cup), become a Luddite, and in general act like a paranoid superspy. Because a woman can never tell which man she will cause to lose control."
There are plenty of Men's Rights Groups who claim that feminists think all men rape. I know that all men do not. I know this because I have a male partner, a brother, a father, male friends. None are rapists.  I want to challenge and destroy this belief that men cannot control themselves - because I know most men are decent human beings. I want to stop rapists and rape apologists perpetuating the negative stereotypes that keep themselves out of prison.

For example, in the comments section of Soraya Chemaly's article

Suggesting that men can control their sexual urges is:

  • Emasculating men.
  • Misandry
  • Male bashing.
  • Similar to racism.
  • Hypocritical.
  • Critical of all men.

Rape is:

  • ...likened to paternity fraud
  • Irrelevant because violent women also exist.
  • Unimportant because some women lie about rape.
  • The result of the feminisation of men.
  • The result of feminism.

  1. The "two men who raped an ll year old" were each sentenced to 7 years after appeal: Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) judgment 23.05.13
It doesn't weaken your argument about the victim-blaming judge, but it's nice that the justice system got there in the end...

Do you have references/links for the comfort women stats?

We really have to figure out how to make unread links stand out... Could you see any of my links from the NHS post?
